Like grandpa like grandson

A picture says a thousand words.

Cousin Question Mark

Friday night, Lennox made his longest trip yet - Detroit to Loda, IL, to attend Aunt Kathy and Uncle Brent's baby shower. Cousin Question Mark is due in mid-January (it's a boy). At the shower, he was well behaved, but once the clock striked noon, it was time to eat. Baby Lennox turned into hungry beast. Kim Schneider was back in town and took a few seconds to give Lennox some love.

1 month weigh in

Saturday, Lennox had his one month checkup and weighed in at a staggaring 12 pounds 5.5 ounces - 99th percentile for 1 month babies. All other vitals looked great and he also received his 2nd dose of Hep B vaccination (blue band-aid). At the doctor's office, he bumped into Elianna (1st dinner date) again - fresh from receiving 4 immunization shots, but she was holding up well. Friday night, Lennox went over to Elianna's house for movie night, but needed to leave after all 4 parents were dozing off half way through the film.

First college basketball game

On Sunday, Lennox traveled to East Lansing to catch the Michigan State vs. Bradley basketball game. He was well behaved minus a few outbursts in the second half. You would have cried, too, if you were a Bradley fan. The final score was 82-53 MSU, one of the worst games we have ever watched in person. At least Lennox looked hot sporting his Bradley onesie.

First date

Lennox was in rare form last night when his date, lil suga, came over for dinner. This photo was taken during a moment of good behavior right after a feeding. lil suga is an older woman, at nearly 2 months old, and she displayed her maturity by being on good behavior all night ... hardly a peep. Lennox, meanwhile, was going for the "bad boy" approach. I guess he heard that's what the ladies like. Can he get a second date????

Cordless

Today Lennox's cord fell off (check out that smooth belly now) so the swimming training initiated. He had his first real bath and was quite content.

Lennox's two week weigh in

Today Lennox went in for his two week checkup and weighed in at 11 pounds. He gained 1 lb 3 oz from the last appt. We knew he was a mother-loving porker and this confirms it. Next appt is mid-December.

We have noticed his eyelashes growing rapidly. Check out the macro.

Thanksgiving 2006

Well, Lennox celebrated his first Thanksgiving and 2 week bday with a trip downtown to lovely Detroit for the 80th Thanksgiving parade. Jason and Julie enjoyed delicious veggie burgers with all the fixins. Homemade pumpkin pie was for dessert! After Lennox's nap, he took part in the annual Thanksgiving football scrimmage at the park. After the game, he was so wiped out, he napped under a tree.

Saturday night ideas

Well, Lennox had one of the worst nights ever last night. He must have known it was Saturday night and had no intention of sleeping. Lennox had his first bath in a week and we hoped he would sleep well, but after last night, we are reconsidering baths all together. I don't think he spent more than 20 minutes in his cradle last night. Feedings seemed to be continuous and Julie is wiped out today. Yesterday, Julie, Sue, Jason, and Lennox went shopping at Target and Marshalls. Lennox was on his best behavior and sporting a lovely custom orange sweater hand knitted by Bonnie (of Bonnie and Vince). Thanks guys.

Peter Rabbit

Lennox was content to hear the story of Peter Rabbit today....one of Sue's all time favorites.

More first week highlights

Lennox has been busy this week. He had his first doctor's appointment and passed inspection with flying colors. His weight was down to 9 lbs 5 oz. at the hospital, but back up to 9 lbs 13 oz. Monday at the doctor's ... so he is porking right back up! Return to double digits is imminent.

He also had to have some blood taken at the lab on Monday. We took him for his first walk in his B.O.B. stroller ... 3 blocks to the lab wearing his mad bomber hat, and he slept right through. He also slept through the entire blood drawing from his heel! What a champ! He obviously didn't take after Julie in this department.

Family time

In Lennox's first week home, he has been very popular with the family. Julie's mom is here helping out a lot, and Julie's dad and Jason's mom, dad and grandma drove all the way up to see him for just a few hours on Sunday. Lennox was on good behavior for their visit.

First night home

Julie, Lennox, and Jason came home from the hospital on Saturday, November 11, 2006. Lennox was wearing the exact outfit Jason came home from the hospital almost 30 years ago.

The Birth

Scheduled to be induced 6:30 a.m. 11-08-06 (one week past the due date)

Julie called the hospital at 4:45 a.m. and they were too busy so we were told to come in a 8:00 a.m. By 8:30 a.m., Julie was hooked up to Pitocin (sp?) and monitored for baby heartbeat and an external contraction monitor. After 3 hours, they broke Julie's water hoping to stimulate labor. Julie was feeling the contractions, but they were not increasing and the dilation went from 2 cm to 4-5 cm in 10 hours. By 9 p.m., Julie was at 6-7 cm and no pain meds had been administered. At 7 cm, she received an epidural in the spine to alleviate the peak contraction pain. She napped for 1 hour. And we waited….after several hours the epidural wore off so Julie's pain was back. The doctors administered another dose to ease the pain, but it did not hold. The doctor gave the news to an upset Julie around 3:15 a.m. that a c-section would be performed. After 6 hours of no progression, doctors didn't feel a traditional delivery was likely.

Because the epidural didn't hold, Julie was put into a deeply sedated state. Her eyes were open, but she did not respond to any sounds and could not talk. During the procedure, she squeezed the hand of her wingman tightly. In retrospect, she should have cut her nails to save Jason the scarring.

Lennox James was born on 11-9-06 at 3:48 a.m. He was 10.0 lbs and 22.25" long. Doctors were convinced Julie would not have delivered traditionally, due to the size of Lennox's head – 14.75" circumference. When Dr. Mullins pulled out the baby, he mentioned that he thought Lennox was in the high 9 lb range for weight and he was surprised the baby was larger than the 8lb estimate, based on Julie's measurements.

Julie didn't fully wake up for several hours. Lennox was off to the nursery for his check-ups. Because he was so large, he needed to pass 3 blood sugar tests, in case Julie really did have gestational diabetes. So far, all is healthy. Last night, he passed his hearing test with flying colors.

Julie is expected to check out of Oakwood hospital on Sunday or Monday morning. Until then, she will be in room 336.

More waiting

Today I went shopping, baked cookies, tossed the baseball, and watched a movie. Still waiting....

Waiting

Well, you are 9+ months pregnant and what to do? Jason is feeling at home in the cradle.
